Nokia and University of Cambridge launch the Morph – a nanotechnology concept device

The Morph

The Morph

Very Intresting concept of a device using nanotechnology called “The Morph” developed by Nokia Research Center (NRC) and the University of Cambridge (U.K.) – was launched on Monday alongside the “Design and the Elastic Mind” exhibition.

Morph is a concept that demonstrates how future mobile devices might be stretchable and flexible, allowing the user to transform their mobile device into radically different shapes. It demonstrates the ultimate functionality that nanotechnology might be capable of delivering: flexible materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces. Dr. Bob Iannucci, Chief Technology Officer, Nokia, commented: “Nokia Research Center is looking at ways to reinvent the form and function of mobile devices; the Morph concept shows what might be possible”.

Morph concept technologies might create fantastic opportunities for mobile devices:

  • Newly-enabled flexible and transparent materials blend more seamlessly with the way we live.
  • Devices become self-cleaning and self-preserving.
  • Transparent electronics offering an entirely new aesthetic dimension.
  • Built-in solar absorption might charge a device, whilst batteries become smaller, longer lasting and faster to charge.
  • Integrated sensors might allow us to learn more about the environment around us, empowering us to make better choices.
  • Exhibitions open: “Design and the Elastic Mind”, on view from February 24 to May 12, 2008, at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.

How to answer your mobile through a tattoo :)

    Digital Tattoo Interface

Very intresting concept, imagine answering your mobile phone by pressing an area of your skin, its not a sci-fi movie scene but one of the entries in the Greener Gadgets Design Competition.

The Digital Tattoo Interface works via a Bluetooth device implanted underneath your skin. Don’t worry, you won’t have anything bulging out like a weird growth – the chip is flat, flexible and made of silicone. It lies between your skin and muscle tissue.
Intrestingly this device electricity powers up by bilogical components of the body “convert’s the blood’s glucose and oxygen from the artery as electricity required”.

This device communicates wirelessly with the world as well as with other devices implanted in the same body. It is always present, always on, but out of sight and non-obtrusive. It also continually monitors for many blood disorders, alerting the person of a health problem: A human version of the check engine light. Product styling is the latest and coolest downloaded display interface showing on any tattoo on the block. This product is waterproof too!!.

    Great ideas 🙂

    Adobe Pushes DRM for Flash

    Flash CS3 Professional, Dreamweaver CS3, Fireworks CS3

I found an intresting post via Electronic Frontier Foundation that “Now Adobe, which controls Flash and Flash Video, is trying to change that with the introduction of DRM restrictions in version 9 of its Flash Player and version 3 of its Flash Media Server software. Instead of an ordinary web download, these programs can use a proprietary, secret Adobe protocol to talk to each other, encrypting the communication and locking out non-Adobe software players and video tools. We imagine that Adobe has no illusions that this will stop copyright infringement — any more than dozens of other DRM systems have done so — but the introduction of encryption does give Adobe and its customers a powerful new legal weapon against competitors and ordinary users through the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).”
    Intresting !!

Flash Lite: Effectively using gotoAndPlay & gotoAndStop

    forum nokia

Faisal posted his first Flash Lite tips’n tricks in Nokia forum about how effectively one can use using gotoAndPlay & gotoAndStop as Flash Lite 1.1 supports pre-AS1 Flash 4 scripting syntax, the developer have to use tellTarget statement to access objects from deferent object.

This trick is quite useful when you have to do a quick goto action, but if you need to perform multiple actions, then you’re good to go with tellTarget.

Love to see more tips and tricks from Faisal 🙂

On2 Technology Included in Adobe Flash Lite 3 Application

    on2 technologies

On2 Technologies announced that it has licensed its optimized TrueMotion(R) VP6(TM) video decoder software to Sony for use in its mylo communicator “COM-2” device.

The COM-2 uses On2’s TrueMotion VP6 decoder with Adobe(R) Flash(R) Lite 3 software, and provides access to videos posted on Flash-based web sites. When connected to a wi-fi hotspot, the mylo communicator can also upload and download content to and from the Web using the touch screen interface on its 3.5-inch high-resolution display. By integrating an optimized version of On2’s VP6 decoder, the mylo communicator users have the ability to enjoy web based video content, while on-the-go.

“We continue to improve the quality of our video solutions for leading handheld device manufacturers, and the mylo communicator is one of the best examples of mobile video products on the market today,” said Bill Joll, president and CEO of On2 Technologies. “Most of the leading user-generated content web sites today use our Flix Engine product and VP6 compression scheme to create and publish video, and we see the market trends moving toward mobile video sharing and consumption.”

I think trend to see video on mobile is going to be a big hit in current year. 🙂

Adobe Pitches New Flash Streaming Platform as iPhone Killer for Mobile Operators

    Flash CS3 Professional, Dreamweaver CS3, Fireworks CS3

Adobe unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, a new client/server streaming media delivery platform with a new mobile profile built to Adobe’s server backend is designed to enable personalize-able user interfaces (UIs) that can be branded by operators and delivered over the air to subscriber phones.

The new mobile profile client software empowers mobile operators to monetize the UI “in the way that ringtones and wall papers are monetized,” says Anup Murarka, director of technical marketing for Adobe’s mobile and devices unit. “You can make the entire UI brandable and we think there is a revenue opportunity there. For operators, we also can elevate key data services to the top of the UI, so you don’t force users to drill down to discover hot new services.”

It’s intresting that people are talking more about mobile experiences and “The evolution of mobile has changed with the iPhone” how it can be improve more or give a another great user experiences to mobile users. Intresting! 🙂
