How to answer your mobile through a tattoo :)

Digital Tattoo Interface

Very intresting concept, imagine answering your mobile phone by pressing an area of your skin, its not a sci-fi movie scene but one of the entries in the Greener Gadgets Design Competition.

The Digital Tattoo Interface works via a Bluetooth device implanted underneath your skin. Don’t worry, you won’t have anything bulging out like a weird growth – the chip is flat, flexible and made of silicone. It lies between your skin and muscle tissue.
Intrestingly this device electricity powers up by bilogical components of the body “convert’s the blood’s glucose and oxygen from the artery as electricity required”.

This device communicates wirelessly with the world as well as with other devices implanted in the same body. It is always present, always on, but out of sight and non-obtrusive. It also continually monitors for many blood disorders, alerting the person of a health problem: A human version of the check engine light. Product styling is the latest and coolest downloaded display interface showing on any tattoo on the block. This product is waterproof too!!.

Great ideas 🙂

On2 Technology Included in Adobe Flash Lite 3 Application

on2 technologies

On2 Technologies announced that it has licensed its optimized TrueMotion(R) VP6(TM) video decoder software to Sony for use in its mylo communicator “COM-2” device.

The COM-2 uses On2’s TrueMotion VP6 decoder with Adobe(R) Flash(R) Lite 3 software, and provides access to videos posted on Flash-based web sites. When connected to a wi-fi hotspot, the mylo communicator can also upload and download content to and from the Web using the touch screen interface on its 3.5-inch high-resolution display. By integrating an optimized version of On2’s VP6 decoder, the mylo communicator users have the ability to enjoy web based video content, while on-the-go.

“We continue to improve the quality of our video solutions for leading handheld device manufacturers, and the mylo communicator is one of the best examples of mobile video products on the market today,” said Bill Joll, president and CEO of On2 Technologies. “Most of the leading user-generated content web sites today use our Flix Engine product and VP6 compression scheme to create and publish video, and we see the market trends moving toward mobile video sharing and consumption.”

I think trend to see video on mobile is going to be a big hit in current year. 🙂

Adobe Pitches New Flash Streaming Platform as iPhone Killer for Mobile Operators

Flash CS3 Professional, Dreamweaver CS3, Fireworks CS3

Adobe unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, a new client/server streaming media delivery platform with a new mobile profile built to Adobe’s server backend is designed to enable personalize-able user interfaces (UIs) that can be branded by operators and delivered over the air to subscriber phones.

The new mobile profile client software empowers mobile operators to monetize the UI “in the way that ringtones and wall papers are monetized,” says Anup Murarka, director of technical marketing for Adobe’s mobile and devices unit. “You can make the entire UI brandable and we think there is a revenue opportunity there. For operators, we also can elevate key data services to the top of the UI, so you don’t force users to drill down to discover hot new services.”

It’s intresting that people are talking more about mobile experiences and “The evolution of mobile has changed with the iPhone” how it can be improve more or give a another great user experiences to mobile users. Intresting! 🙂

Mobile phone reads text to the blind

K-NFB Reading Technology

Today i found this very intresting news!! a mobile handset which released today is being touted as the smallest text-to-speech device ever created.

K-NFB Reading Technology, a joint venture between the National Federation of the Blind and Kurzweil Technologies, aims to help blind, partially-sighted and people with learning difficulties to ‘read’ text. The software has been designed to work with Nokia’s N82 handset to create the smallest text-to-speech reading device in the world.

The software turns the phone into a pocket-sized reader, enabling users to take a picture of most printed material and have it read back to them.

“Blind users hear the contents of the document read in clear synthetic speech, while users who can see the screen and those with learning disabilities can easily enlarge, read, track and highlight the material.”

“The software makes use of the N82’s large screen and 5-megapixel camera, and combines the best available character-recognition software with text-to-speech conversion technology.”

A communication tool which can enhance life and help to the society, is something which always i am keen to!! rather then just a fashion statement.

Have a look in to the details feature list here.

Nokia reveals a mobile phone literally made for sharing

nokia 1209, nokia 2600

Espoo, Finland – Today, Nokia unveiled the Nokia 2600 classic and the Nokia 1209, two mobile handsets that offer useful features, range of colors or exchangeable covers for consumers in emerging markets.
Nokia also recently undertook a survey of consumers in emerging markets and exposed a new trend: mobile phone sharing. Apparently, more than 50 percent of those surveyed in India and Pakistan, plus almost 30 percent in Vietnam, either already share or would be willing to share the use of their mobile phone with family or friends.

“Phone sharing is a logical trend – more and more families are purchasing a mobile phone for the entire family to use, not just the head of the household. In addition, digital cameras are quickly becoming more popular in these markets, and as such taking and sharing digital images is becoming more common,” adds Lambeek. “In response, Nokia has developed a number of innovative features like the multiple phonebook to support phone sharing, and we have added technologies like Bluetooth to some models to make transferring images and ringtones easy and affordable.”

Don’t design for “mobile” – design for mobility

Adaptive Path’s Peter Merholz posted an article about “Don’t design for “mobile” – design for mobility”. We really need to understand that the essence of great mobile application design is understanding that a phone is always with you – not that its simply a smaller device.

Some of the points which a developer or designer should consider:

“What we’re realizing is that the key item of concern when designing for mobile is the context in which the device is used. What this means is that discussions of “PC” versus “mobile” are misguided, because we shouldn’t be focusing on the device. We are not designing for mobile — we’re designing for mobility. ”

“A key characteristic of mobility is that the environment around the user is dynamic — they’re walking, driving, on transit, in restaurants, theaters, offices, moving from place to place, context to context. Things around them are constantly changing. ”

It’s true that we’re missing big opportunities when we design for the device, and not for the context in which the device is being used!!
