A new application enables Adobe’s Flash Video to play smoothly on mobile phones. The\u00c2\u00a0<\/font> transcoding system will be unveiled this week at 3GSM in Barcelona.<\/font>The technology has been created by On2 Technologies<\/font><\/a>, a video compression company based in the\u00c2\u00a0 U.S.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/font><\/p>\n

The company’s video compression technology is licensed to Adobe for use in Flash 8 and 9.<\/font>\u00c2\u00a0 The video compression software is also sold directly to content developers and video sharing sites.<\/font><\/p>\n

The new system for wireless transcoding is called Flix Engine 3GPP.\u00c2\u00a0 It will initially support the H.263 and AMR-NB 3GPP formats.\u00c2\u00a0 On2 has the exclusive rights to transcode Flash files.<\/u><\/font>Content developers and carriers will have the ability to transcode Flash files and make them available directly to wireless users.\u00c2\u00a0<\/font>The system provides compression of video files, making them as little as one quarter the size of the original files<\/u>.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/font><\/p>\n

Making video files smaller is of crucial interest to wireless carriers, many who are daunted by the expected bandwidth demands of streaming video.<\/font><\/p>\n
