Japan Mobile Internet Report: Carriers, Handsets, Content and Services

 japan keitai life

Just found this very intresting report which i was finding and looking since quite some time An indepth report on Japan Mobile Internet Report — Carriers, Handsets, Content and Services. A must check to see the reason behind huge popularity and stunning revenues generated by Japan’s mobile Internet ecosystem!. As the reasons behind the success and how these lessons apply to other markets are little understood outside of Japan.

Japan is arguably the world’s most advanced mobile market: 40 percent of mobile data revenues worldwide are generated here, three-quarters of the population use the mobile web, and 4-in-5 users are on 3G devices. More than $8 billion in revenues are generated from official mobile content and mobile commerce alone each year, in addition to data access and mobile advertising revenues.

These lessons from Japan can be applied to create success in other markets worldwide, and which are unique to the country and will not transfer elsewhere.

Some of the compelling service by  carriers, content providers and handset manufacturers are:

  • Mobile Search
  • Mobile Music
  • Mobile Social Networking and User-Generated Content
  • Mobile Payment and NFC Applications
  • Mobile TV
  • Location-Based Services
  • Mobile Advertising
  • Fixed-Mobile Convergence
  • Handset Catalogue

Pretty old news but i still love this beautiful advertisement of Junior Keitai. Really sweet looking cute phones with great security features which can save a child’s life. 🙂

Equipped with ‘Movement Tracking System’, a device which allows parents to track the location of their children from their mobile phone or PC whenever a warning buzzer is sounded or when the child’s phone is switched off. This system also has automatic camera and phone functions, further allowing parents to confirm a child’s location through sound and images.

Nokia N95 just got Flash Lite 3/Web runtime firmware update

Nokia N95 firmware update

Nokia N95 just got its Flash Lite 3/Web runtime firmware update. Although not as big an update as v20 was (which introduced demand paging and transformed the speed of the device, remember), v21.0.016 is still a major firmware and well worth installing.

What’s new in v21.0.016:

  • Flash Lite 3 is included, so Flash video sites will work, including YouTube (just as on the N95 8GB v15 firmware from a couple of months ago)
  • The Web runtime is included, meaning that standalone widgets are now possible
    Greater Bluetooth headset compatibility
  • Better handling of entering lots of text into web page dialogs
  • Speedier Gallery in every way
  • Faster Java runtime

Adobe Flash Player 9 update to destroy and save Web apps!!

flash player 9

Adobe is issuing an update to Flash Player 9 that it hopes will prevent Flash-based Web applications being used to launch attacks against consumers but the update may also stop Flash apps working if developers don’t heed Adobe’s recommendations.

The April update addresses two security flaws in Adobe Flash 9, relating to cross-site scripting (XSS) and DNS rebinding attacks — common techniques used to attack computer systems by exploiting flaws in Web applications.

The update focuses on features in Adobe used by Web developers to communicate with third party servers. Those likely to be affected will be using sockets or XMLSockets; or addRequestHeader or URLRequest.requestHeaders in a network API to access content from sites outside their own domain.
If a site provides access to content on remote domains as a Web service provider, or if it has Flash content in pre-Flash 8 format that communicates with the hosting HTML, then the site could be affected. The update could also impact a site if it uses javascript to communicate outside of a Flash SWF. In all cases, Adobe advises following its recommendations to avoid problems.

Adobe says that the April 2008 Flash Player update will help defend against malicious HTTP headers sent from other domains by performing a cross-domain policy file check before allowing SWFs to send headers to another domain.

Adobe MAX 2008/2009 Cities Announced, again not in India??

 Adobe MAX 2008/2009

Great news!! Adobe MAX 2008/2009 Cities Announced but off course as like as last year or so, again not in India?? Not sure for this reason!! or its not announced yet!!

MAX 2008/2009 will be held in San Francisco, California, Milan, Italy and Tokyo, Japan. MAX is an experience unlike any other, an opportunity to connect with thousands of designers, developers, partners, executives and Adobe staff for education, inspiration, and community.

Few questions if Adobe Max not happening or yet to be announced in India and it will be great if someone from Adobe can give answers:

  • Why no plans for India?, is anything particular?
  • Are we developer/designer are behind the current technologies or current IT scenarios so Adobe don’t think of having a MAX here!!
  • Are we don’t participate in Adobe MAX events. OR is this issue related to money investment? or money per user participation, If Yes!! then why Adobe don’t put a user survey and say how much anyone can pay for??
  • Are great speakers/developers/designers not like to come to India!!

I appreciate if everyone or every Indians can comment here and let’s Join hands to make Adobe to think on MAX event here. Your Views/thoughts/suggestions/ideas anything feel free to write.

apple iphone

Adobe has confirmed it will develop a version of Flash Player for the iPhone. 🙂 finally. The news ends months of speculation on the matter. Apple CEO Steve Jobs this month said that Flash Player for mobile devices isn’t good enough for the iPhone.
“Proper” Flash “performs too slow to be useful,” on the iPhone, Jobs warned. “There’s this missing product in the middle. It just doesn’t exist,” he explained.

We believe Flash is synonymous with the Internet experience, and we are committed to bringing Flash to the iPhone,” Narayen said. “We have evaluated (the software developer tools) and we think we can develop an iPhone Flash player ourselves.”
